How do I become a SERE Specialist ?[You need to go to your local Air Force recruiter, and join the Air Force with a guaranteed contract that says SERE. (slots are limited) Back to TopWill my family come with me to tech school ?[If you are married yes your family will go with you to tech school. They will not come with you to Lackland for the INDOC Course. Basically as soon as you graduate the Indoc course at Lackland you will PCS (permanent change of Station) to Fairchild AFB, WA. We will send you there on a Government purchased plane ticket. Cross Trainee's and Prior Service will go back to your bases and PCS from there. At this time you Family will be allowed to move with you. If you are married you will live in Fairchild's Base Housing. I would not recommend renting or leasing or buying a home until you graduate training.] IF YOU ARE SINGLE YOU WILL LIVE IN THE DORMS ON THE SURVIVAL SIDE OF FAIRCHILD AFB. Back to TopWhat will I be doing from the time I graduate Indoc until Tech School?`[You will PCS to Fairchild and first off get settled. Then you are required to go through course S-V80-A (the 17 day combat Survival course) This is the course you will be teaching when you graduate tech school. The course starts on a Monday and you will Graduate on a Wednesday. Then Thursday and Friday you will attend S-V90. Water Survival. Your remaining time while awaiting training is going to be spent in experiential training. You will be going to the woods, and observing SERE Specialists, and given hands on training to give you a "head start" on what to expect during your 6 months of training. Also during this time you will be doing normal Airman details, Physical training, lesson planning, and possibly doing fun things such as rock climbing or river crossing. ] Back to TopWhat is the day to day life like as a SERE Specialist after I graduate Training ?[Once you graduate training you will be Assigned to the 22d Training squadron, as a field training instructor. There are 4 flights in the 22d. You will be assigned to G-Flight (which is the upgrade training flight) During your assignment at G flight you will be assigned a trainer who will be responsible for training you the ins and outs of course S-V80-A. You will be practice teaching your lessons and proving to your trainer you are able to go teach by your self. This upgrade training usually takes up to 6 months. Your Schedule will be something like this... Monday thru Friday, you will be teaching in a lab room on base. Day usually starts at 0700 and ends at 1730. Lab usually consists of up to 12 students. This is where you are teaching you element the basic survival knowledge. The student will be tested on the information prior to going to the Field.
Friday you will go to the Field (About 2 hours North of Fairchild) You will get everything set up for your students arrival on Saturday. Saturday. Students arrive and you teach Basic survival in a static camp. Sunday is non-combat Navigation day. Mon thru Wed. is Evasion training. Thursday you will come back to base fill out your travel voucher, clean your gear, and go home. Friday will consist of cleaning up from the trip and doing what ever paperwork needed. Then you will have a 4 day weekend. SAT. SUN. MON. TUES. **OFF** Wed, Thurs, Friday. You are the support flight for the squadron. SAT. and SUN **OFF** Then Monday this whole cycle starts over again.
What is the attrition rate ?[10% AT Basic Training, 50% at INDOC, 40% at Fairchild. (The attrition is not all performance failure. It consists of Medical injuries, Academic Pulls, Self Elimination, Disqualification etc.) Back to TopWhen should I expect my package to be accepted if I am cross training ?[It can take a week or it can take several months. It is your responsibility to ensure you have completed everything required for your package. You package does not come to us. Once your package has been reviewed, someone will contact you to inform you of your class seat. Like I said there is no set time frame for package acceptance. But ensure you have completed all of the requirements on the site, and your MPF requirements. NO video needed for your application. Back to Top
